Miami + Atlanta: making room for everyday adventure
← Back to the blog · LIFESTYLE
Miami and Atlanta are home base for me, and “what I’m loving lately” doesn’t always mean a big trip. It can be a dinner, an outfit, a new opening or the decision to leave a little room in the week for something enjoyable.
Everyday adventure sounds ambitious, but it doesn’t have to be. You can make a familiar week feel different without planning an expensive weekend or treating free time like another project.
Choose a mood before a destination
Ask what you actually want: conversation, fresh air, a reason to dress up or a change of scenery. A great place can still be the wrong plan if it doesn’t match your energy. If you want to catch up with someone, prioritize being able to hear each other. If you want a solo afternoon, give yourself permission to keep it simple.
That one decision makes the next ones easier. You’re choosing an experience that fits your life, rather than trying to fit your life around a list.
Give the day one main plan
Start with one anchor: coffee, a meal, an event or a walk. Check the details that could make or break it, such as current hours, booking requirements, transportation and weather. Then leave a little space before adding something else.
A flexible afternoon is easier to enjoy than a chain of appointments you’re already running late for.
Set a budget before the group chat grows
You don’t need to justify wanting an affordable outing. Be clear about the kind of plan you’re suggesting and any costs you know about. For group plans, decide whether everyone is comfortable with the budget before making a reservation.
The point is getting together, not creating a surprise bill or an obligation that takes the fun out of the evening.
Let style support the plan
Wear something that makes you feel good and works for the actual activity. Consider walking, seating, weather and the journey home. The outfit can be part of the fun without becoming the thing you spend the whole day managing.
Keep a small list of possibilities
Save a few ideas when you come across them, then revisit the list when you have time. Include both new places and familiar favorites. Repeating a good plan is allowed; you don’t have to discover somewhere new every time you go out.
For me, Lately with Ley is a place to share those little sparks of interest. Take the ideas that fit, adapt them to your own city and leave room for your version of a good day.
