Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos review: beautiful views, with a few real-life caveats

My take: 4 out of 5. Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos was beautiful, with that near-the-water setting that makes you pause for a second before reaching for your phone. We paid full price for our stay; this wasn’t a hosted visit. And while there was plenty to appreciate, a couple of practical issues kept it from being a five-star experience for me.

The part that delivered

The setting and the all-inclusive format were the draws. There’s something lovely about arriving somewhere beautiful and having your stay organized around one property. For a trip where you want time to enjoy the hotel itself, that setup can make sense.

My advice is to decide what kind of vacation you want before comparing resorts. If your ideal day involves enjoying your surroundings and keeping plans simple, an all-inclusive can be appealing. If you want to spend most of your time exploring different neighborhoods and restaurants, compare how much of the package you’ll actually use.

What fell short during our stay

The AC broke down across much of the property while we were there, so it was hot. That affected the comfort of the stay. A beautiful property still needs the basics to work, especially when you’re paying full price.

This describes our visit, rather than a claim about the hotel’s current condition. Before booking, I would ask directly about any ongoing maintenance or disruptions that could affect the areas you plan to use.

The airport transfer detail I wish we’d settled earlier

Airport shuttles were available for our trip, but when we needed to leave at 6 a.m., there wasn’t a shuttle available. We paid for a taxi instead. The lesson: “airport transportation available” and “transportation available at your exact departure time” are two different questions.

Before arriving, send your flight details and confirm the pickup time, cost, reservation requirements and backup option in writing. For an early departure, work backward from your airline’s check-in guidance and allow for the journey to the airport.

A beach-view reality check

The water is part of the appeal, but beach access doesn’t automatically mean ocean swimming. Hard Rock’s published guest regulations prohibit entering the ocean on the beach adjoining the hotel. Plan around the property’s rules and follow local safety instructions.

Would I consider it again?

My overall rating is still 4/5: a beautiful all-inclusive experience with specific frustrations that mattered. I’d want the AC issue resolved and the early transfer arranged before returning. That’s the version of the review I’d want a friend to give me: enjoy the setting, and ask the unglamorous questions before you go.
