Things to do in Cabo: a little adventure, a little downtime
← Back to the blog · TRAVEL
Cabo is an easy place to fill a camera roll. The trick is building a trip you actually want to live, too. My Los Cabos content includes a stay at Hard Rock Hotel and a Cactus Tours UTV outing, and those two experiences make a useful starting point: a little adventure, a little downtime.
This is a planning guide, with ideas beyond the activities I’ve filmed. You don’t need to do everything on one trip. Pick the moments you care about, leave space between them, and give yourself permission to enjoy the hotel you booked.
Start with one desert adventure
A UTV outing is one way to see a different side of Cabo. Cactus Tours offers off-road experiences in the desert and along the coast. Choose the actual vehicle and tour package you want, rather than booking from a photo alone. Ask about driver requirements, transfers, fees, protection options and the rules for personal cameras before paying.
I’ve shared my Cactus Tours experience on video. Use that as a visual introduction, then check the operator’s current information for the details that apply to your booking.
Make time for the water—with the right plan
Los Cabos has dramatic coastal scenery, but a beach view is not a promise of safe swimming. Choose activities and beaches with local guidance, and follow the conditions and restrictions on the day. At Hard Rock Los Cabos, the hotel specifically advises against ocean swimming at its beach.
If seeing El Arco is on your list, compare boat trips by what they actually include: route, group size, time on the water and cancellation terms. Leave a little flexibility if conditions change.
Consider an afternoon in San José del Cabo
For a change from resort time, look at the historic center and gallery district in San José del Cabo. The official tourism board describes a seasonal Thursday Art Walk, generally November through June. Confirm the schedule for your dates before building an evening around it.
Pair a gallery visit with an unhurried meal instead of treating the whole town as a quick photo stop. Check travel time from your particular hotel; Los Cabos is a destination with different areas, not one compact neighborhood.
Leave one day lightly planned
Here’s a simple rhythm: arrival and settling in; an adventure day; a slower day with time for a meal or neighborhood visit; and departure with transportation already confirmed. If you have longer, spread those ideas out rather than adding a reservation to every empty hour.
Keep the essentials together: booking confirmations, your hotel address, operator contacts and your airport pickup plan. Then close the notes app for a while. The best trip has room for a moment you didn’t schedule.
