kiko Original mini camera: first impressions and my Fort Lauderdale photo diary

← Back to the blog · LIFESTYLE

Disclosure: I worked with kiimento on a paid kiko camera campaign. This post features the camera from that collaboration.

A hotel pool, a good mirror, a pretty patch of sunlight. Sometimes the little moments end up telling the story of a trip just as well as the big plans.

For this Fort Lauderdale photo diary, I’m sharing a first look at the kiko Original mini camera through the pictures themselves: selfies, city views, leafy walks and the hotel details that caught my eye. Think a little digital-camera nostalgia, with a very Lately with Ley mix of places, outfits and whatever made me stop for a second.

The quick take

The photographs in this set have a warm, soft look, with a noticeable glow around some lights. Daylight scenes make the subjects easier to read; illuminated signs and darker interiors show more softness and lost highlight detail. Those differences are part of deciding whether this style suits the memories you want to make.

This is a first-impressions photo diary. The examples below are the useful part: you can look at the faces, colors and bright areas for yourself, rather than relying on a star rating.

What is the kiko Original mini camera?

The kiko Original is a small digital camera by kiimento, sold in a sealed blind box. The brand lists photo and video capture, a rear screen, a front selfie mirror and USB-C charging. Its compact design and surprise packaging give it an accessory-meets-camera feel.

The blind-box detail matters if you have a particular color in mind: the brand says the style inside is randomized. Check the current product listing for available editions, storage requirements and what comes in the box before ordering.

Selfies, sunshine and a little personality

The selfie in this diary is a good place to start. You can see the shape of my curls, the gold hoops and that warm cast across the scene. The image is softer than a crisp studio portrait, but the expression still carries the picture.

That’s the appeal of this kind of photo diary: a smile can be the whole point. An outfit, a hotel room or a quick pause before heading out can belong in the story without becoming an entire production. There is room for the small moments, too.

Fort Lauderdale, through a softer lens

The pool and skyline photographs give the city a different texture. Buildings, water and open sky fill the frame, while the sunset view leans into the warmer tones already running through the set.

The park photograph adds another side of the day: trees, shade and a green space between the city scenes. Together, these pictures tell more than one version of a Fort Lauderdale stay. There’s the hotel moment, the view and the simple walk in between. Very much my kind of itinerary.

Indoor light changes the story

The coffee-bar image is full of warm lamps, wood tones and small details. Look at it alongside the neon-sign photograph and the tradeoff becomes clearer: bright lights spread into the surrounding image, and the lettering in the sign loses definition.

That glow can create atmosphere, but it also makes some information harder to read. If a menu, sign or fine product detail needs to be clear, take a separate reference photo and check the result before moving on. For a travel diary, having both the mood and the practical detail is useful.

Who might enjoy this style?

This set will probably speak to you if your favorite travel pictures feel casual, warm and a little nostalgic. It’s a natural fit for a photo dump built around faces, places and everyday discoveries.

If your priority is very sharp detail, clean night scenes or accurate documentation of a product, look closely at the sample images before deciding. The softer rendering and bright-light glow are visible here. Your preference for those qualities matters more than whether a camera happens to be trending.

A few questions, answered

Is the kiko Original a film camera?

It’s a digital camera. The nostalgic look doesn’t mean you need to buy or develop film.

What do the sample photos look like?

In this Fort Lauderdale set, the photos lean warm and soft. Daylight portraits and city scenes retain recognizable subjects, while bright indoor lights and the neon sign show more glow and less highlight detail.

Can you choose the color in the blind box?

According to kiimento, the sealed box contains a randomized style. Check the current listing if a particular color is essential to you.

A little more life in the camera roll

A big view deserves a picture. So does a good smile, a beautiful tree or the corner of a hotel you keep walking past. This diary is a reminder that the in-between moments can carry a story of their own.
