The Dalmar, Fort Lauderdale: a stylish downtown stay with a quieter rhythm

← Back to the blog · TRAVEL

The Dalmar has been the kind of hotel that makes staying in for a while feel like part of the trip. During my current Fort Lauderdale stay, the things standing out are the design, good customer service and a quiet, relaxed feel. It’s aesthetically pleasing without making the experience feel overly formal—and the food and drinks have been good, too.

These are my impressions while I’m still here, rather than a final score for a completed stay. The useful question is whether this kind of hotel suits the Fort Lauderdale trip you want to have.

A downtown base, with the beach within reach

The Dalmar is at 299 North Federal Highway in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Marriott places it near Las Olas Boulevard and approximately two miles from Fort Lauderdale Beach. That distinction is worth knowing before you book: this is a city hotel with beach access nearby, rather than a hotel directly on the sand.

For a stay that mixes restaurants, time in the city and a beach visit, that balance can make sense. If you want to walk out of your room and straight onto the beach, compare locations carefully. The hotel advertises a beach shuttle; confirm its current hours and what your particular rate includes.

The design is part of the experience

My first impression is how aesthetically pleasing the property is. The hotel describes its style as mid-century inspired, but the part that matters to me is simpler: it’s a setting I enjoy spending time in.

There are small details worth noticing, too. The guest-room doors have doorbells. It’s a memorable little touch—the kind of thing that doesn’t usually make it into a hotel search filter but becomes part of how you remember the place.

Good service and a calmer pace

The customer service has been good during my stay, and the overall feeling so far has been quiet and chill. For me, that’s an appealing combination: a stylish place that still feels easy to settle into.

That describes my experience at this point in the trip. A hotel’s atmosphere can vary by room location, events and time of day, so I would ask about those details if a particularly quiet stay is a priority.

Food and drinks without a whole new plan

I’ve enjoyed the food and drinks, and having multiple dining options at the property is convenient. You can make a meal or a drink part of your hotel time instead of organizing a separate outing for everything.

The hotel lists options including Rose’s Coffee Bar, the Lobby Bar, Sip ’n Dip and Sparrow. Check the current menus, opening days and reservation requirements for the places you want to try; this isn’t a review of every venue on the property.

The parking detail to budget for

Parking is valet only, and the rate during my stay is $40 per day. Marriott’s published parking information also lists a $40 daily valet charge. It’s a practical cost to include when comparing the total stay—not just the room rate.

Before booking, confirm any applicable destination fee, parking taxes and what is included in your rate. If you plan to come and go by car, ask about valet access and allow time for pickup.

Who this stay could suit

Based on my experience so far, The Dalmar is worth considering if you like design-led hotels, want a downtown base and appreciate having food and drink options close by. My current highlights are the look of the property, the service and its relaxed pace. The location and valet cost are the details I’d weigh against your own plans.
